Driving logbook app for iPhone

Your logbook for the German tax office, without writing down a single kilometre.

Spurbuch records every trip in the background. Then you swipe it to business, private or commute, and at the end of the year you export your finished logbook as a PDF. Your trips stay on your iPhone, and you don't need an account.

For your company car and for your own car

A clean logbook pays off most in two cases. And in both, Spurbuch keeps the list for you.

Company car

You want to move away from the 1% rule

Without a logbook, you pay tax every month on 1% of the car's list price, however little you drive privately. With a logbook (the Fahrtenbuch method), what counts is the share you drive privately. That's why Spurbuch shows you both ways side by side at the end, so you can see which one costs you less.

Private car

You use your own car for business trips

Then you can claim €0.30 for every business kilometre. To do that, you need to show when you drove where, and why. Spurbuch collects exactly this for every trip, so you don't have to piece it together at the end of the year.

A day with Spurbuch

To keep that list right, you only need three short steps in your day.

  1. You drive

Spurbuch uses GPS and your iPhone's motion sensors to notice that you are driving. It saves the start and end time, both addresses, the route and the distance, without you opening the app.

  2. You swipe the trip

Once you arrive, you swipe the trip to business, private or commute. For a business trip you then add the purpose and the business partner, and you have 7 days to do it.

  3. You export your year

At the end of the year, or for any other period, you create a PDF logbook and a CSV file. You hand both to your tax adviser or add them to your tax return.

What goes into your logbook

And because each kind of trip needs different details, Spurbuch only asks for what that trip needs.

Business

These are the details the German tax office (Finanzamt) expects:

  • date
  • odometer at the start and at the end
  • destination
  • purpose of the trip
  • business partner
  • the route you drove, if you took a detour

Private

For private trips only the kilometres count. So where you went privately is not in the logbook.

Commute

Spurbuch counts trips between home and work separately. They show up as their own total in your summary.

On top of that, Spurbuch keeps a running odometer for every car. If you correct it, that is logged as well. And if you drive more than one vehicle, you add each one with its number plate.

Later changes stay visible

The tax office looks closely at these details, because an electronic logbook must not be changed later without a trace. That's why Spurbuch saves every change to a finished trip as a new version. It holds the old value, the new value, the time and your reason for the change.

All versions are linked by a SHA-256 checksum, like the links of a chain. This means that if someone secretly changed an old entry, the chain would no longer fit together.

Seven days after the trip, it is locked. This matches the German Finance Ministry letter of 3 March 2022 (BMF-Schreiben, margin number 29), which gives you 7 calendar days to add the purpose and business partner. And so nobody has to take this on trust, the change log is printed inside the PDF logbook itself.

Trip 14.10.2026, 10:12
Purpose: Meeting → Client meeting, offer discussed
Changed on 15.10.2026, 08:31
Reason: purpose completed
Odometer K SB 2026
48,198 km → 48,213 km
Changed on 15.10.2026, 08:34
Reason: checked against the dashboard

Example data. Each line carries the checksum of the one before.

Good to know: the German tax office does not certify logbook software, so it has not certified Spurbuch either. Whether your logbook is accepted is decided by the tax office case by case.

At the end of the year, it's all ready

Once your year is driven, you turn it into your logbook. The PDF lists every trip with its required details, plus the change log, for a full year or any period you choose. You also get a CSV file that you can open in Excel, for example.

And the summary shows you what the year added up to:

  • your business, private and commute kilometres
  • the estimated mileage allowance (Kilometerpauschale) at €0.30 per kilometre
  • the estimated commuter allowance (Entfernungspauschale) at €0.38 from the first kilometre (2026 rate)
  • for company cars, the 1% rule and the logbook method compared
Example: summary for 2026
Business8,420 km
Private3,115 km
Commute3,960 km
Mileage allowance (estimated)€2,526.00

Example values. All amounts are estimates. This is not tax advice, please check with your tax adviser.

Your trips stay on your iPhone

A logbook shows where you were every day. That's why Spurbuch stores your trips only on your iPhone. They are shared only when you export a PDF or CSV file yourself and send it on.

You need no account

You install the app and drive. You don't sign up anywhere or give an email address.

Your routes stay on the device

There is no cloud that holds your routes. Even when you write to us through "Help & Feedback", only your message goes to our server, with no trip data.

No tracking

The app only counts when you allow it: if you switch on anonymous usage stats, it reports the app version and subscription status once a day. This website sets no cookies, loads no third-party fonts and does not count visits.

Questions people ask before they start

Does the German tax office accept Spurbuch?

The tax office does not certify logbook software, not Spurbuch and not any other app. Spurbuch follows the requirements in the Finance Ministry letter of 3 March 2022: it records the required details, locks trips after 7 days and makes every later change visible. Whether your logbook is accepted is decided by the tax office in the end. So please talk to your tax adviser first.

Do I have to open the app before each trip?

No. Spurbuch records in the background as soon as you drive. You only open the app when you want to sort the trip.

What happens after the 7 days?

Then the trip is locked. Until then, you add the purpose and business partner. Spurbuch saves every change to a finished trip as a new version with a reason, and these versions appear in the PDF later.

Can I manage more than one car?

Yes. You add each vehicle with its number plate, and each one has its own running odometer.

Do I need an account?

No. Spurbuch works without signing up, and your trips stay on your iPhone.

Which devices does Spurbuch run on?

Spurbuch is an iPhone app and runs on iOS 17 or later. The app is available in German and English.
